1. Storage
Mayer rods are precision tools — handle and store them carefully. They should always be shipped in protective sleeves. Keep sleeves on when the rod is not in use or being cleaned to avoid surface damage.
Store rods so they do not bend or bow. Bent rods cause uneven coating or streaks.
2. Cleaning
Remove rods right after production ends and clean them promptly.
- For water‑based coatings: Soak immediately in warm water mixed with mild detergent.
- For solvent‑based coatings: Soak immediately in the same solvent used in the coating process.
After soaking, gently scrub with a fine brass‑bristle brush, rinse and dry before storing. Buschman supplies suitable brushes with 0.075 mm (0.003 in) brass wire.
3. Handling
Avoid knocking rods against hard surfaces — even small damage leads to costly defects. When moving long rods, use enough people to support them fully and prevent bending.
4. Rotation
Rods are designed to rotate during operation. Continuous rotation ensures even wear around the entire rod surface.
